Julian Gyll

Julian is a teacher and writer based in Brighton, England. He divides his time between his two literary loves: thrillers and fantasy.

Under the name JG Murray, he publishes horror-thrillers for Atlantic Books. His debut The Bridal Party won the Deviant Minds Prize of 2018, and he recently released the murder mystery New Year’s Eve.

The rest of his time is spent in imaginary worlds. Julian has written fantasy fiction for several publications such as BFS Horizons, History Will Be Kind and Silver Blade Magazine.

He is an award-winning short story writer, garnering plaudits such as the Words Just Words Science Fiction Prize and Save As Shakespeare. He also appeared in the anthology 24 Stories alongside the likes of Irvine Welsh and Christopher Brookmyre in order to raise money for the victims of the Grenfell tragedy.

His childhood love of fantasy, combined with his enthusiasm for the wuxia genre in cinema, made him fall head over heels for the cultivation subgenre and create the Canyonlands series.

Julian is represented by Euan Thorneycroft at AM Heath Agency.
